Summary

The Catcher in the Rye is a story about a guy name Holden Caulfield. This guy has a little sister name Phoebe which he loves with all his heart. He had a brother name Allie which die from leukemia and a brother name D.B which writes stories. At the beginning of the story his at Prence watching the football game from Thomson Hill. He decides to go say good-bye to his history teacher Spencer, he got kicked out of Prence for failing his classes. After visiting Spencer he goes back to his dorm, he gets in a fight with his roommate Stradlater. He gets really mad and decides to go home to New York. On the way there he meets this lady on the train he talks with her for a while. Holden can't get back home till Wednesday so he decides to stay in a hotel. He is feeling depress so he goes to the bars to get some drinks and talk with some girls. Everything seems to not go right for him he decides to go back to the hotel. When he gets there the elevator guy talks with him about sending a girl. When the girl sunny gets there he decide not to do nothing with her so he pays her so she can leave. Later that night sunny and the pimpy elevator guy pay him a visit. He didn't pay the full price so he got into an argument with them. The next day while his at breakfast he meets these two nuns which he gives them ten bucks for their collection. He was sore for not given them more but he had to keep some dough because he had a date with Sally Hayes. The date with Sally was going nice they went to the skating rink. While they were there Holden had a stupid idea of going to Massachusetts and Vermont. Sally didn't like this Holden got mad and made Sally cry the date turn out bad. Holden feelings and moods change very often through the story. Holden had alot of time left he meet with a friend name Carl Luce at a bar he got really drunk. He decided to say hello to Phoebe without anybody knowing. After talking with Phoebe and boring her Christmas dough he left. He visit Mr. and Mrs.Anotolini they talk for a while since he didn't want to spend Phoebe's dough. He fell asleep but then woke up, for some reason he didn't feel like staying there. He left and he spent the night at the Grand Central waiting room, when he woke up he decided to take a walk. While he was walking he thought about going out west and starting a new life. He thought of having a little cabin and not talking with anyone. He wrote a letter to his little sister so that he could give her, her money back before he left. When they meet Phoebe, had a suitcase she wanted to go with him. He got mad and told her she couldn't. They were mad at each other they walk to the zoo. Phoebe didn't walk beside him she was really mad. The whole time at the zoo she kept a distance from him. They left the zoo and walk to the carrousel he bought her a ticket to get on she was not that mad no more. He had fun watching her go around and around he decided not to leave and stay at New York. At the end of the book we can realize that he is an a intuition the whole time he is telling us this story about what happend to him around last Christmas.
